We also help parents put the children first, with parenting arrangements that work around school, sport and shift work, whether you live in town or on a farm.

Our team is led locally by Special Counsel Julie Vass and supported by ALA Law’s Accredited Family Law Specialists, so you get specialist family law expertise close to home.

FAQs

Family law questions from Blayney clients

Can I meet a family lawyer in person near Blayney?

Yes. Our Orange office is around 30 minutes from Blayney and we see clients there by appointment. Many clients also choose phone or video appointments, and we share and review documents securely online.

How is mining or shift-work income treated for child support?

Child support is generally based on each parent’s taxable income, which can include overtime and bonuses. If your income changes a lot from year to year, there are ways to have that taken into account. We can explain how it applies to you.

Where are AVOs dealt with in Blayney?

Apprehended domestic violence orders are dealt with by the Local Court. Blayney Local Court is in Adelaide Street, and Orange Local Court is nearby. If you’re in immediate danger, call 000.

How is a farm divided in a property settlement?

There is no automatic 50/50 split. The Court looks at what each party contributed, including inherited land and work on the farm, and at future needs. Many families agree on an outcome that keeps the farm operating, and we can help you get there.

How long after separation can I get a divorce?

You need to have been separated for at least 12 months before applying for a divorce. In some cases you can be separated while still living under the same roof. Parenting and property matters can be dealt with before the divorce.

Is there a time limit for a property settlement?

Yes. Married couples have 12 months from the date their divorce becomes final, and de facto couples have two years from separation, to apply for property orders without the Court’s permission.
